Texture basics

Custom jerseys in EA NHL 08/09 usually ship as DDS textures plus a roster/team binding. Keep power-of-two sizes and do not upscale a small source: blurry sleeves mean the original width is below the on-screen width.

Name files exactly as the mod readme states. A single wrong jersey id leaves the team on defaults while others look updated.

Conflicts and testing

Install one uniform pack at a time. Launch a quick game, check home/away/third sets, then add the next pack. If two packs share the same team slot, the last file copied wins.

For Russian league visuals see the main archive sections and file center. Historical English threads remain readable; posting forms stay disabled in this static archive.

How jersey textures are organised

In NHL 09 every team uses a set of uniform textures: home and away jerseys, pants, socks and sometimes helmets and gloves. The game maps a flat texture onto the player model, so a custom uniform is mostly a careful 2D drawing that has to line up with the seams of that model. Most modders started from an existing jersey of a similar cut and repainted it rather than drawing from scratch, because the template already matches the model layout.

Numbers and names on the back are usually generated by the game from font files, not painted into the jersey. That is why a custom team can look right on the front but show the wrong number style: the font set has to be changed separately if you want club-specific digits.

Tools and file formats

Graphics in this generation of EA NHL games live inside packed archives and use EA-specific texture containers. Community tools were used to open those containers, export textures to common image formats, edit them in a regular image editor and import them back. Keep the original resolution and colour format when you import — a texture saved with a different size or without the expected alpha channel is the usual cause of black or invisible jerseys.

Sharing your work

If you publish a uniform pack, include a short readme: which game and mod version it targets, which team slots it replaces and which files it overwrites. That simple note saves other players from conflicts with roster updates and arena packs, and it makes it much easier to combine your work with other add-ons.
